Adam Montgomery, born on 18 July 2002 in Scotland, is a defender, best known as a left back, currently at Livingston. He stands at 5ft 8in (1.73m) and weighs 9st 6lb (60kg). Montgomery can usually be spotted on the pitch wearing the number 3 jersey.
In July 2009, Montgomery took his first steps in professional football when he joined Celtic in the Scottish Premiership as a trainee. His debut season, 2020 - 2021, saw him make two league appearances for the Celtic first team. The following season, 2021 - 2022, Montgomery increased his involvement with the first team, making eight appearances in league matches.
Montgomery's career trajectory took a change in January 2022, when he transferred to Aberdeen, also in the Scottish Premiership, on loan. Here, Montgomery made seven league appearances.
Upon the completion of his loan, in June 2022, Montgomery returned to Celtic. Much like his earlier stint, he made two appearances in his debut season and eight in the subsequent one.
July 2022 saw Montgomery change his stripes again, this time moving to St Johnstone in the Scottish Championship on loan. Montgomery seized the opportunity well, clocking up 28 first-team appearances in the 2022 - 2023 season.
The next season, in June 2023, he was once again back in Celtic green and white. Yet again, he replicated his previous Celtic record, making two first-team appearances in his debut season and eight in the following season.
In July 2023, Montgomery had his first taste of English football as he transferred to Fleetwood Town in League Two, England, on loan. After his stint in England, he returned to Celtic in January 2024, where he maintained his usual pattern, making two first-team appearances in his debut season and eight in the following season.
Yet no sooner had he found his feet back at Celtic, than he was off again, this time to Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership on loan. Montgomery's Motherwell stint was, however, cut short, and he was back in Celtic colours again from February 2024.
Interestingly, the narrative of two first-team appearances in his debut season and eight in the following season at Celtic remained consistent even in this phase.
He was off again in February 2025, transferred to Queen's Park in the Scottish Championship on loan. Here, he had a productive season, making 12 first team appearances and scoring one goal in league matches.
His fixture at Queen's Park ended in June 2025, and yet again he returned to Celtic. As had been the pattern, his two initial appearances followed by eight in the next season were steadfast.
Montgomery's latest move has seen him shift to Livingston in the Scottish Premiership on loan in July 2025. He has so far made a commendable eight appearances in the current season of 2025 - 2026.
While at Livingston, he made one start in the League Cup 2025 - 2026, scoring a goal in the process. Montgomery's career seems to be progressing well, and it will be interesting to see just how far this young defender will go.
