Alex Murphy (born 25 June 2006, age 20) is a Republic of Ireland central defender now with Kaiserslautern, where he wears the number three shirt.
His career has been shaped most clearly by Newcastle United. Across two seasons there, he made four league appearances, with the 2023-24 campaign bringing two of them. It is not a vast body of senior football, but it is still the spell that gives his career its main outline so far.
Murphy’s move to Kaiserslautern has taken him into the 2. Bundesliga, where he has made three league appearances in 2026-27. At this stage, his profile is straightforward: an Irish centre-half whose early senior career was built at Newcastle, now trying to add substance in Germany.
