Ah, Andrew Shinnie, our beloved Scottish midfielder, donning the number 22 jersey and quite unmistakably seen huffing around the pitch for Livingston. Born on the 17th of July, 1989, he's carried his 70kg (11st) frame of 1.8m (5ft 10in) on many a Scottish field, and even had a tryst in the English leagues.
Modest as a Scottish summer, Shinnie's current market value floats around the €50k mark, a trifle over £40K in sterling if my conversion skills serve me right, according to Transfermarkt.
For starters, our lad didn't have the most bombastic of beginnings at Rangers (2006 - 2007) with just two appearances where he was presumably told where the goal post is. He moved on to Dundee (2008 - 2009 & 2009 - 2010), making in total a good 32 appearances and squeezing in a goal as well.
The following seasons were served at Inverness CT (2011 - 2012 & 2012 - 2013) in a productive spell, where he made 57 appearances and managed to lob the ball at goal 19 times. If you’re keeping count, it was during this period that he was most prolific.
Motivated by postcards of Queen Elizabeth or whatever else attracts Scotsmen to England, he packed his bags to join Birmingham City (2013 – 2016). He clocked 67 appearances scoring just four goals before being shunted off to Rotherham United (2015 - 2016) for the most illustrious of three match appearances.
Perhaps missing the cold and irritable people of his native land, he returned to Scotland with Hibernian (2016 - 2017), making 27 appearances and scoring a solitary goal. However, a longing for the English Scones or whatever else lured him back to Luton Town (2017 - 2018 & 2019 - 2020) where he netted just twice in 41 appearances.
Loyal as a Saint Bernard, Shinnie returned to Scotland to finesse his talents at Livingston. From 2021 to present day (2025 - 2026), he’s totted up 160 appearances and found the back of the net a total of 10 heart-stopping times. This would have been more impressive if this wasn’t over a five year period. Alas, this season, Shinnie hasn’t seen any first-team action for reasons only the coaches and woodwork know best.
Last and definitely least, his recent highlights include one starter in the League Cup 2025 - 2026, a single goal in the Scottish Cup 2024 - 2025 after gracing the pitch thrice (once as a starter and twice as a substitute), and two cameos in the Prem. Play-offs 2024 - 2025. Not exactly setting the world alight, is he?
