Benjamin Nygren, born 8 July 2001 (age 24), is a Swedish attacking midfielder who joined Celtic from FC Nordsjaelland in July 2025 for around £1.5m. Given the usual noise around attacking midfielders, that was a fairly modest fee for a player who arrived with senior football behind him and room still to grow.
He took the number 8 shirt and became a regular part of the Celtic first team in 2025–26. His league return has been the most productive of his career so far: 16 goals in 38 appearances, a useful contribution from a central attacking role rather than a decorative one.
Across all competitions for Celtic, Nygren has made 57 appearances and scored 21 goals. That includes three League Cup appearances, four in the Scottish Cup with one goal, two in Champions League qualifying, and 10 in the Europa League with four goals. He has also represented Sweden this season, making five World Cup qualifying appearances and scoring once.
His current market value is around £8.5m, according to Transfermarkt. Nygren’s career is still taking shape, but his first season at Celtic has made him a regular first-team presence rather than just another attacking option.
