Benjamin Nygren, born on 8 July 2001 (age 25), is a Swedish central attacking midfielder who joined Celtic from FC Nordsjaelland in July 2025 for around £1.5m. He took the number 8 shirt and arrived as a first-team option rather than a project to be hidden away.
His first season at Celtic was productive: 16 goals in 38 league appearances in 2025-2026, his best league return to date. He was part of the side that won the Premiership that season, giving him an early domestic medal without much need for ceremony.
Nygren has remained involved in 2026-2027. He has made 17 appearances for Celtic across all competitions, scoring six goals, including three in seven league matches. He has also featured in the League Cup, Scottish Cup, Champions League qualifiers and Europa League.
At international level, he has continued to represent Sweden this season, with appearances across World Cup, World Cup qualifying and Nations League matches. His market value is around £12m, according to Transfermarkt.
Nygren’s Celtic career so far is a clean enough story: signed from Nordsjaelland, productive in his first campaign, and still a regular part of the first-team picture.
