Carl Starfelt, born in Stockholm on 1 June 1995 (age 31), is a Swedish central defender now with Celta Vigo, where he wears squad number 4. His most productive league season came at Rubin Kazan in 2020-21, when he scored three goals in 29 appearances.
Celtic signed him from Rubin Kazan in July 2021 for around £4m. He arrived as a fairly practical centre-half rather than a glamour signing, and that was more or less the point. During two seasons in Glasgow he was part of a side that won two Premiership titles, two League Cups and one Scottish Cup.
Starfelt left Celtic for Celta Vigo in August 2023. In 2026-27 he has made five appearances for Celta across all competitions, scoring once, including three in LaLiga, one in the Copa del Rey and one in the Europa League. His current market value is around £4.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
He has also remained involved with Sweden, playing once at the World Cup this season, three times in European World Cup qualifying and twice in the Nations League. His career has taken him from Sweden to Russia, then through a successful Celtic spell and on to Spain.
