Craig Gordon was born in Edinburgh on 31 December 1982 (age 43), a commanding 6ft 4in (1.93m) Scottish goalkeeper whose career has been rooted largely in Hearts, with a substantial Celtic spell in the middle of it.
His early development included a loan at Cowdenbeath in 2001-02, where he made 12 league appearances. For a young goalkeeper, that sort of spell tends to matter more than any neat academy line on a CV. It gave him senior football, mistakes included, before he became properly established at Hearts.
Celtic signed Gordon in July 2014, a move that gave him a prominent stage after a difficult period in his career. He became an important first-team goalkeeper at Celtic, not always without scrutiny, but rarely out of the conversation. In July 2020 he left Celtic and returned to Hearts.
He remains with Hearts, wearing the number 1 shirt. In 2025-26 he has made three league appearances, and has also played twice for Scotland in European World Cup qualifying. His current market value is around £43,000, according to Transfermarkt.
Gordon’s career has run from Hearts to Celtic and back to Hearts, with Scotland caps continuing into his forties. It is a long goalkeeper’s career, shaped by resilience, experience and a fair bit of staying power.
