Enzo Barrenechea, born on 22 May 2001 (age 25), is an Argentine central defensive midfielder with Benfica. He wears the No 5 shirt and has built his senior career in Europe as a tidy, functional midfield player rather than a headline act.
His most productive league season came in 2024-25 at Valencia, where he made 30 appearances and scored once. For a holding midfielder, that is a respectable body of work: regular involvement, limited fuss, and the odd contribution further forward.
At Benfica in 2026-27, Barrenechea has made 10 appearances across all competitions, split between Liga Portugal and Europa League qualifying. His career so far is that of an established professional still trying to turn steady involvement into a firmer long-term place.
