In what turned out to be a formative experience, Richardson was loaned out to Exeter City in England's League One in August 2019. After a year-long stint there, he returned to his parent club Nottingham Forest.
Richardson's career took another turn when he was loaned to Forest Green Rovers in the National League in England in September 2020. Upon the completion of his loan term, Richardson returned to Nottingham Forest yet again in June 2021, and replicated his debut season performance with two first team league appearances.
Richardson's last loan before his permanent shift saw him playing for both Notts County in England's League Two in December 2021 and later for Stockport County in League One.
His first taste of Scottish football came in July 2022, when he transferred to Aberdeen for an undisclosed fee. In his only season with the club during 2022-2023, he made an impact with 19 first team appearances in league matches.
After a brief loan period with Colchester United in England's League Two, Richardson returned to Aberdeen. In September 2024, he went back to England to negotiate a move to Boreham Wood in the National League.
In a final shift, Richardson moved back to Scotland to join St Mirren in the Premiership in July 2025, where he swiftly became a key player. As of the current 2025-2026 season, Richardson has already made 13 first team appearances in league matches.
