Johnny Kenny was born on 9 June 2003 (age 22) in Riverstown, County Sligo, and came through at Sligo Rovers before Celtic moved for him in January 2022. The fee was around £140,000, a modest outlay for a young Irish striker with enough about him to be worth a proper look.
His Celtic career has not been a straight run into the first team. Kenny has had to gather his football elsewhere, with his most productive league campaign coming at Shamrock Rovers in 2024, when he scored 13 goals in 29 appearances. That season did more for his profile than any amount of promise on paper.
In 2025–26, Kenny made 15 league appearances for Celtic, scoring 4 goals, before going on loan to Bolton Wanderers, where he added 6 goals in 14 league appearances. He has also represented the Republic of Ireland this season, making one World Cup qualifying appearance.
He remains a Celtic player, wearing squad number 24, with a market value of around £510,000 according to Transfermarkt. His career so far is that of a developing striker who has found goals in spells, and is still trying to turn that into a settled role at a higher level.
