Kasper Schmeichel, born on 5 November 1986 in Denmark, currently represents Celtic as their stalwart goalkeeper. Standing at a commanding height of 1.89m (approximately 6ft 2in), he cuts an imposing figure on the pitch. Weighing a robust 89kg (about 14 stone), Schmeichel dons the number 1 jersey, a number befitting his authority in front of the Celtic goalposts. His skills haven't gone unnoticed either; he's had the honour of representing the Denmark national team.
Presently, his market value stands near the region of £255k, a figure derived from Transfermarkt as a reliable estimate of his worth at a national and international level.
With an eventful career trailing behind him, Schmeichel began at Manchester City as a trainee in November 2004 where he made a cumulative eight first team appearances across two seasons. He then had brief loan spells at Darlington, Bury, Falkirk, Cardiff City, and Coventry City, making appearances ranging from four to 15 at each club in a single season. In 2009, he left Manchester on a permanent transfer to Notts County, where he made 43 appearances during the 2009-2010 season.
Leeds United became Schmeichel's home for the 2010-2011 season, a stint that bore witness to 37 first team appearances for the club. His journey continued at Leicester City, a transfer that cost approximately £1m. Here, he spent a decade up until the 2021-2022 season, frequently making over 30 league appearances each season in the top flight of English football.
Moving further afield, Schmeichel transferred to Nice in France's Ligue 1 before a shorter spell at Belgium's Anderlecht in the Pro League. However, his largest contribution came when he joined Celtic in the Scottish Premiership in 2024.
Since he's made 32 first team appearances in the 2024-2025 season, and 15 so far in the current season, Schmeichel has proven to be a critical asset between the Celtic goalposts. Furthermore, he's represented Celtic in the Champions League Qualifiers and the Europa League, as well as Denmark in the World Cup Qualifiers, Euros, and the Nations League.
Schmeichel's position at Celtic is characterised by his experience, resilience, and commitment, lending immense value to the performances on the Celtic pitch. With his proven track record, it's no wonder Celtic pride themselves on such a reliable keeper.
