Ah, Leon King. Now there's a lad who's seen more bench than my old park. Born on the 14th of January 2004 in good old Scotland, King is, ostensibly, a defender, gifted with impressive heights of 6ft 2in (1.88m) and tipping the scales at 11st 9lb (74kg). This giant chose to play his football primarily at centre back for the team we shall not mention. Because naming them would make my pint turn sour.
The tale of our young trainee begins in July 2018, when he first joined that outfit with the royal moniker. In his first season 2020 - 2021, King had the audacity to grace the touchline exactly once in a league match. And wouldn't you believe it, the 2021 - 2022 season saw him daring to don the strip four times for league matches.
Emboldened with unprecedented confidence, King feigned a remarkable number of fifteen appearances in the 2022 - 2023 season. Alas, our boy took a step back in the 2023 - 2024 season, perhaps humbled by his own audacity, and graced the pitch only five times.
In a stunning turn of events, the good lad is currently playing hoofball for intimates Rangers, with a less-than-stellar record of two appearances in league matches for the 2024 - 2025 season. Yet, in an unexpected twist, King found himself shunted off to Queen's Park in February 2025, another Championship side perhaps more suited to his...let us say, reserved approach to pitch time. Since the move, King has put on a decent show with nine first team appearances in league matches this season.
Interestingly, the lad also found the time to mark his attendance in the Scottish Cup 2024 - 2025 for Rangers with a magnificent one appearance as a substitute. Oh, and the Europa League 2024 - 2025 as well, where he marked his territory with a start and a stint as a substitute. One can only assume he was enjoyin' a nice cuppa during the rest of these tournaments.
Quite the storied career, wouldn't you agree? One can also only wonder where one half of the 'Old Firm' would have been before 2013 if King had been around in those days!
