Our tale begins with one Lyall Cameron, a footballer birthed in this grand nation of Scotland on the 10th of October 2002. Now at the tender age of 22, he finds his trade as a central attacking midfielder, currently plying his trade for our dear friends at Rangers. Standing at an uninspiring 5ft 10in (1.8m) and tipping the scales at a rather average 11st 9lb (74kg), Cameron dons the number 16 jersey, presumably the best fit they could find in the leftover kit bag.
Apparently, the chap's current market value is somewhere in the region of £1.5m, or so say the wise soothsayers over at Transfermarkt, who I'm sure have spent countless hours pondering over such financially inane figures.
Our young Cameron embarked on his footballing voyage in the sun-drenched July of 2017, joining Dundee as a bright-eyed trainee. Somehow finding his way to the first team by the 2022 - 2023 season, he then made 26 appearances and netted a not-at-all-shabby eight goals. Following seasons saw similar mediocre performances, with 32 appearances and five goals in 2023 - 2024 and 33 appearances with nine goals in 2024 – 2025. Riveting stuff, I’m sure you agree.
In what I can only attribute to some form of twisted masochistic pleasure, Cameron found himself on a mind-numbingly chaotic journey, bouncing between Dundee, Peterhead, Montrose and Rangers from 2020 to 2025, with the occasional undistinguished stint on loan. If I were to dedicate any more words to this series of unfortunate events, I fear I may slip into a comatose stupor.
Currently, in the 2025 - 2026 season at Rangers, our dynamic (or as dynamic as one can be wearing a Rangers jersey) midfielder has made a grand total of three first team appearances. Hold the applause. A towering achievement, one must say. He’s even managed to find himself scoring one goal in the Champions League Qualifiers, undoubtedly the highlight of an otherwise humdrum career so far.
And so, we wish him all the best in his endeavours. After all, it couldn’t possibly get any less interesting, could it?
