Manu, born on 12 June 2001 (age 25), is a Portuguese defensive midfielder whose senior career has so far been shaped chiefly by Vitória SC. That is where the substance of his record sits: 39 league appearances and three goals across three seasons.
His strongest campaign came in 2023-2024, when he scored twice in 23 league appearances for Vitória. It was not a spectacular return, nor did it need to be. For a player in his role, the value was in regular involvement and a clear place in the side.
He is now with Benfica, wearing squad number 16. In 2026-2027 he has made three appearances across all competitions, including one in the league and two in Europa League qualifying. His form this season has been solid, though he has been out of the matchday squad in recent weeks, with his last appearance coming in Benfica’s 1-1 draw with Hearts on 13 August 2026.
At this stage, Manu’s career remains defined by his Vitória spell rather than his Benfica chapter. He is an established professional with a useful body of league football behind him, and the next step is to turn squad involvement at a bigger club into something more regular.
