Marcos Alonso, born in Madrid on 28 December 1990 (age 35), is a Spanish left-back with Celta Vigo, where he wears the number 3 shirt. He came through Real Madrid’s system before moving to England with Bolton Wanderers, an early step that gave him senior football outside the usual comforts of a Spanish academy route.
His career took a clearer shape after a move to Fiorentina and a loan spell at Sunderland. That period in England was not glamorous, but it mattered: Alonso learned the practical side of the job, while keeping the attacking instincts that would later make him stand out from most full-backs.
Chelsea was where his unusual scoring return became hard to ignore. In 2017-18 he scored seven league goals in 33 appearances, a striking figure for a defender and a fair reflection of how often he arrived in dangerous areas rather than merely overlapping for show.
He later moved on to Barcelona before joining Celta Vigo. In 2026-27, he has made five LaLiga appearances and one in the Europa League, giving him six appearances across all competitions for the club.
Alonso’s career has been built across Spain, Italy and England, with his best years marked by a rare goal threat from left-back. At this stage he is an experienced defender at Celta, still shaped by a career that has rarely been confined to the defensive third.
