Matt O’Riley, born in London on 21 November 2000 (age 25), is a Danish central midfielder now with Brighton & Hove Albion. His current market value is around £17m, according to Transfermarkt.
He arrived at Celtic from MK Dons in January 2022 for around £1.5m, a fee that soon looked modest. Celtic quickly became the main part of his career rather than a staging post. Across his time in Glasgow, he made 93 league appearances and scored 25 league goals, with his best return coming in 2023-24: 18 goals in 37 league games.
O’Riley’s game at Celtic was not built on noise. He gave the midfield control, timing and end product, and by his final season he had become one of the side’s most reliable attacking contributors from deeper areas. That made his August 2024 move to Brighton for around £25m a straightforward piece of modern football arithmetic, if not an especially welcome one.
At Brighton, where he wears squad number 33, he has made two league appearances in 2026-27, along with League Cup and Conference League qualifying involvement. He has also represented Denmark in World Cup qualifying this season.
His career to this point is shaped most clearly by Celtic: a sharp move from MK Dons, a rapid rise in Glasgow, and then a substantial transfer to the Premier League. Brighton is now the next test, but the Celtic spell remains the one that gave his career its weight.
