Nicolas Kühn, born on the first day of the millennium in Germany, turns his attention to the beautiful game as a right winger for Celtic Football Club. Standing at 5ft 9in (1.76m) and tipping the scales at a lean 10st 12lb (69kg), the 25-year-old is a master at cutting through the defence in his number 10 jersey.
A valuable asset to the team, Kühn has a market value of approximately £10.5m according to Transfermarkt. Celtic fans can rest easy in the knowledge that contract negotiations have been sealed and Kühn is set to grace the pitch in the Celtic strip until 30 June 2029.
Kühn's football journey has seen him travel across Europe and beyond. In July 2015, he got his start at RB Leipzig II in the Oberliga in his home country of Germany. After three years in Leipzig, Kühn journeyed on to Jong Ajax in the Eerste Divisie in the Netherlands, transferring for a fee of around £1.8m in January 2018. His time in the Netherlands saw a steady progression in first team appearances and accomplishments, from five appearances in the 2017-18 season up to 21 appearances and two goals in the 2018-19 season and 17 appearances with three goals in the 2019-2020 season.
The start of the new decade saw him returning to Germany with a move to Bayern München II. This period, though the fee remains undisclosed, yielded more first team appearances and goal-scoring. Kühn then, briefly, experienced playing on loan for Erzgebirge Aue in the 2021-2022 season prior to his transfer to Rapid Vienna in the Bundesliga in Austria for a sum of £450k in July 2022.
In January 2024, Kühn bid farewell to the Bundesliga to join the Scottish Premiership with Celtic for a significant fee of £3m. He has, in his two seasons at Celtic, proven his worth with 14 first team appearances and two goals in his debut season, and a remarkable 32 appearances with 13 goals in the 2024-2025 season.
Kühn greatly contributed to Celtic's cause in the 2024-2025 League Cup, scoring five goals over four matches, the Scottish Cup in the same season with five appearances and the Champions League with three goals over ten appearances. Celtic fans will undoubtedly be keen to see more of Kühn's productivity on the pitch in the seasons to come.
