Nicolas Kuhn, born on the first day of the new millennium in Germany, has been impressing football fans all over Europe, quite prominently as a forward who more often than not plays as a right-winger for Celtic. At 5ft 9in (1.76m) and 10st 12lb (69kg) he presents a sturdy figure on the field wearing the iconic number 10 jersey.
The clever lad is not just valued highly by the Celts, but his market value is a solid £10m as of now, according to Transfermarkt. His current contract with Celtic still has a touch more than four years to run, set to expire on 30 June 2029.
Before making his name back home in Germany, Kuhn joined the trainee programme at RB Leipzig II in 2015. Three years later, he took a leap north to the Eerste Divisie in the Netherlands, signing with Jong Ajax for a fee of £1.8m. His inaugural season, albeit with a modest five first-team showings, would open doors to more frequent appearances. Twenty-one appearances in the subsequent season and another seventeen in the one that followed, coupled with a handful of goals during his tenure, mark a steady growth in his career.
In an unexpected move in January 2020, Kuhn was back on home turf- signing with Bayern München II in Germany. Once again, the number of first-team appearances increased, as did the number of goals per season. However, in 2021, Kuhn was on loan to Erzgebirge Aue in Germany- a season during which he graced the field twenty-seven times and scored thrice.
The following year saw him hopping borders again; this time he transferred to Rapid Vienna in Austria for a sum of £450k. Twenty appearances in the first season, sixteen in the next and a few goals later, Kuhn was ready for another adventure.
Thus, in January 2024, he found himself in Scotland, having been transferred to Celtic for a cool sum of £3m. His first season at Celtic, just half a season really, saw him making 14 first-team appearances and scoring twice. The ongoing season proves to be promising- Kuhn has already made 30 appearances and scored 13 goals, and the season still has some way to go. The lad also seems to have a liking for cups – being part of the Celtic team in the 2024 - 2025 League Cup, Scottish Cup, and the Champions League. He’s scored eight important goals in these competitions so far.
With a fair bit of zig-zagging across countries and leagues under his belt, and his current form at Celtic, one might want to keep an eye on Nicolas Kuhn's activities over the next few years- particularly those donning the green and white, I reckon.
