Stephen Welsh, born 19th January 2000 (now aged 26), is a Scotsman known for his defensive prowess on the football field. Currently strutting his stuff as a central defender for Motherwell, Welsh stands formidable at 6 foot 3 inches (1.91m) tall and tips the scale at 12 stone 3 pounds (78kg). He dons the number 57 jersey and has been honoured to represent Scotland's Under-21 national team.

Welsh's journey began in July 2017 when he joined Celtic as a trainee. Across several seasons, from 2019 to 2026, Welsh showed off his skills on Celtic's football pitch, making multiple first team appearances and scoring goals in season 2020-2021 and season 2022-2023, respectively.
In August 2019, Welsh temporarily shifted club allegiance, transferring on loan from Celtic to Greenock Morton in the Scottish Championship. His stint there was short-lived, as by January 2020, he had returned to Celtic.
Despite his loyal service, Welsh was again transferred on loan in January 2025, this time to Mechelen, finding himself amidst the intensity of the Belgian Pro League. He made seven first team appearances in his season there, before making his way back to his familiar stomping grounds at Celtic half a year later.
Not one to stay put, in September 2025, Welsh transferred on loan yet again, this time to Motherwell. Here, in the current 2025-2026 season, Welsh has proven his worth with 21 first team appearances and a goal to his name. At the turn of the year, in January 2026, he returned to Celtic. However, a mere month later, in February 2026, he went back to Motherwell on loan, where he has continued to deliver performance after performance.
Not just a regular season player, Welsh participated in the League Cup 2025-2026 for Motherwell, starting once and making one appearance as a substitute. A player with plenty of movement and experience under his belt, Stephen Welsh continues to chart his football career with avid determination and skill.
