Tony Watt, born in Scotland on 29th December 1993, is a football striker currently with Partick Thistle. Fashioned in the robust build of a traditional forward, Watt's imposing stature sees him standing tall at 5ft 11in (1.82m) and pushing the scales to 13st 12lb (88kg).
Developing his craft at Airdrieonians in Scotland during the 2010-2011 season, Watt made a name for himself with 15 first team appearances and a satisfactory tally of three goals. His displays warranted attention from the Scottish Premiership giants, Celtic, who obtained his services for around £100,000 in January 2011.
At Celtic, Watt's contribution to the first team span across three seasons. In the first (2011-2012) he scored two goals in three first team appearances, while the next season saw a considerable increase in his contribution; he managed to score five goals in 20 appearances. The 2013-2014 season was rather uneventful for the striker, having featured only twice for the first team before securing a loan move to Lierse SK in Belgium.
With Lierse SK, Watt found a decent amount of playing time, managing to notch eight goals in 17 appearances during the 2013-2014 season. After his loan spell, he swapped Celtic for Standard Liege, a transfer that cost the Belgian Pro League club £1.2 million.
His stay with Standard Liege was short-lived, with Watt making a transfer to Charlton Athletic in England's Championship for an undisclosed fee. He had a busy time with Charlton, featuring in an altered pattern across four seasons and netting a total of nine goals in 53 appearances.
During his time with Charlton, Watt also had a series of loan moves to Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers, returning with two goals from nine appearances and a single goal from nine appearances for the respective clubs.
Yet another loan move sent Watt to Hearts in Scotland for the 2016-2017 season, rounding up a rather mundane spell with one goal from 16 matches.
Watt then ventured back to Belgium with Oud-Heverlee Leuven, followed by stints with St Johnstone and CSKA Sofia, before finally cementing a position with Motherwell in February 2020. His form with Motherwell was remarkable; his second season (2020-2021) saw him score nine goals from 35 matches, a sharp increase from his previous seasons.
Despite his form, Watt joined Dundee United in January 2022 and also spent time on loan to St Mirren and back to Motherwell before his current transition to Partick Thistle in July 2025. The 2025-2026 season will see Watt take to the pitch in the Thistle colours, with his current market value established around £170K, according to Transfermarkt.
As Watt dons the number 32 jersey for Thistle, it is anticipated that the striker will continue to build on his League Cup performance from last season, scoring a single goal during his two substitute appearances. A seasoned journeyman at the respectable age of 31, Tony Watt continues to manifest his commitment and love for the beautiful game.
